2004’s Lucie Awards ceremony will be held at the American Airlines Theater in New York City on October 18, 2004. The Gala Awards Ceremony be hosted by Douglas Kirkland.
The Lucie Awards recognizes the achievements of the world’s finest photographers with categories including fashion, entertainment, advertising, portraiture, fine art, photojournalism, documentary and lifetime achievement. The Lucie Awards is the only ceremony of its kind honoring the greatest achievements in photography. Lucie Award founder and Event Director, Hossein Farmani, says, "The spirit behind the annual Lucie Awards ceremony is to salute the achievements of the world’s finest photographers, discover new and emerging talent, and promote the appreciation of photography."
As Douglas Kirkland, 2003 Lucie Award recipient and host of 2004’s event, claims, 'The movie industry has its Oscars and now the photography community has its Lucies!'
2004 recipients include Gordon Parks, Cornell Capa, Sebastiao Salgado, Jim Marshall, Bruce Davidson, James Nachtwey, Bert Stern, Arnold Newman, Sylvia Plachy, Jay Maisel and Special Tribute Awards to Helmut Newton and Francesco Scavullo.
